Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
matthew 5:7
The results of the hear that is poor in spirit (vs 3), that mourns (vs 4), that is meek (vs 5), and the therefore hungers and thirsts after righteousness is given in the next three verses.
First, we see that the person becomes merciful. They have received the mercy of God and know that others need to be shown the same. The work of God in their lives causes them to look upon others with the same mercy that was received.
The merciful person sees the needs of others, is moved to compassion about those needs, and their compassion moves them to action.
When this person is able to show mercy, they will not only receive the same mercy from other in return, but most importantly they will receive mercy from the Lord.
